Ask question

What are the differences between car subscriptions and leasing?

With a car subscription, all costs are included. Fully comprehensive insurance, taxes, tires, servicing… With leasing, you pay a monthly rate for the vehicle, but you have to take care of the servicing of the vehicle yourself. With full-service leasing, these costs are already included in the monthly rate. However, the flexibility of a car subscription is usually an advantage. With leasing, you are bound to a fixed term (e.g. 3 years) and mileage (e.g. 10,000 km). If your circumstances change, you can easily adjust your car subscription with most providers.

How many kilometers can I drive with a car subscription?

Each provider offers different mileage packages. These are usually calculated per month. According to official statistics, the average Swiss person drives around 10,000 km per year in their car, which would be around 850 km/month. It is important that your car subscription makes it easy to change the mileage package if you drive less or more.

Can I drive my car abroad with a subscription?

Yes, but with restrictions. Most providers allow journeys within Europe. This is practical for going on vacation. These countries include Andorra, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Finland, France, Gibraltar, Great Britain, Croatia, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Monaco, the Netherlands, Norway, Austria, Poland, Portugal, San Marino, Sweden, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, the Czech Republic, Hungary and the Vatican.

Can other people drive my car?

Many providers have a second driver regulation, which means that someone else can also drive your car and enjoy full protection. It is usually only important that the person has a valid driving license in Switzerland. Some providers also require a certain minimum age. Car subscriptions with a permitted second driver include Enterprise Minilease, The Hire Guys, Abo@Europcar, AMAG Auto Abo, Arval, Astara Move, Audi Abo, Auto Kunz, AUTOABO by carplanet, Awesome Auto Abo, BMW Abo, Carify, Carvolution, Clyde, e-JOY, Emil Frey move, Flatdrive, Hertz MiniLease, Hyundai All Inclusive, Instadrive, Mini Abo, moeo, mowedo, Renault Abo, simpcar, SIXT+, UPTO.

Can I use my car for business purposes?

The providers want to receive their vehicles back in good condition after your subscription. For this reason, industrial use, e.g. in trade, is usually not permitted. Some providers have a special B2B department that deals with the concerns and questions of business customers. Car subscriptions that allow business use are Enterprise Minilease, The Hire Guys, Arval, Astara Move, Audi Abo, Auto Kunz, AUTOABO by carplanet, Awesome Auto Abo, BMW Abo, Carify, Carvolution, Clyde, Emil Frey move, Flatdrive, Hertz MiniLease, Hyundai All Inclusive, Instadrive, Mini Abo, moeo, navigas mobility, Renault Abo, simpcar, SIXT+, Toyota Rent, UPTO, Von Rotz.

Can I buy the vehicle after the subscription ends?

Most cars in the subscription must be returned and cannot be purchased. In some cases there are individual agreements, but in general there is no provision for you to buy the car. At the end of your subscription, you will receive a new vehicle on request and will always be driving a new car. In the case of leasing, you can buy the vehicle at the contractually agreed residual value.

What costs aren’t covered by a car subscription?

In addition to the regular monthly costs, there may be other costs depending on the provider. You should check these. Examples:

  • One-off registration fees
  • Advance payment of monthly installments
  • Costs for additional mileage (if you drive more than the agreed mileage, this will cost extra)
  • Home delivery
  • Costs for car care (paint protection, car wash, vacuuming…)
  • Parking fees
  • Deductible in the event of an insurance claim
  • Traffic fines

Which car subscription allows dogs and pets?

In principle, a car subscription can also be used with dogs. Unfortunately, many providers are rather opaque on this subject. Some dogs make a lot of mess, some are cleaner. That is why there is no general rule here. However, you should ask the provider of your choice for the “return criteria catalog”. This lists in detail which damages you will be charged for on return and which you will not. What damage is considered normal wear and tear and what is considered “damage”? Heavy soiling in the interior or odors (cigarette smoke) are not welcome and incur extra costs. You may be charged for the removal of these odors and soiling. In general, you should make sure that your four-legged friend always travels safely (dog harness, dog crate…) and that you use a dog mat so that your pet’s claws do not damage the seats. In the end, you know your dog best and know how much dirt it makes. Just for comparison: if you use your car subscription for 2 years to transport building site materials, then it will look the same. You would have to pay for this and it’s the same with a pet. The best way to find out whether your car subscription is also suitable for dogs is to talk to the provider individually.
